Susan Chang is a partner and founding member of Shimoda Design Group, a boutique studio specializing in bespoke design solutions for leading companies across the U.S. Her range of experience in workplace, retail and residential projects has been integral to the development of the multidisciplinary design practice. Under her leadership, the studio work is diverse with a common strength in its narrative unique to each client and company brand experience. 

In 2000, Susan and Joey Shimoda founded Shimoda Design Group at a live/work warehouse in the burgeoning Arts district of downtown Los Angeles. The firm steadily gained a reputation for innovative workplace interiors, history-conscious building renovations and bold, forward-looking creative mixed-use campuses. SDG's 17 design professionals allow creative collaboration to infuse and inform the work they do all across the country. On each project, their eclectic sensibilities merge with a unique client culture for engaging, enlivening, transformative design as exemplified by collaborations with Steelcase Inc., Tishman Speyer, TOMS Shoes and Bloomberg.

A design chameleon, Sequoyah Hunter-Cuyjet has the unique ability to tap into the heart of a community and give people a voice through design. With her diverse art and culturally-rich background as well as her multidisciplinary design experience, she is a versatile person who can help partners address any project challenge.  

Sequoyah has a Bachelor of Art in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College—where she studied art, literature and anthropology—as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Moore College of Art + Design. Boutique Magazine recognized her as a 2020 Boutique 18—a rising star in hospitality design.  

She is an agent of change who is passionate about advocacy and providing quality design for underrepresented communities. Sequoyah’s design process balances the beauty of art and materiality with functional solutions. She is passionate about championing diversity within the design profession and providing all people access to interior design through design equity. Sequoyah is determined to design for real people with real world problems and uplift them through elevated spaces.

As Senior Principal and Director of Interior Design for HOK’s Atlanta practice, her professional experience in higher education, healthcare and corporate workplace inspire new ways to integrate and balance well-being, technology and flexibility for people and businesses. Betsy is President of CoreNet Global’s Atlanta Chapter, President Emeritus of The Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center and lectures nationally on the evolution of the workplace and addressing the challenges of the future.
